Abstract:
Scientific and technical periodicals are a powerful mean
of disseminating current information on research and
development . As these periodicals published in Sri
Lanka are few nearly ninety five percent of our
requirements come from the developed countries of the
western world. Mode of subscription is direct ordering
from publishers, through foreign subscription agencies
and in rare occasions through membership. The
subscription rates of these are high with a tendency of
increasing around 10% annually . This study based on
special and university libraries and on printed
periodicals published in English, attempts to find out
how far these periodicals are received to the
satisfaction and aspirations of librarians and how far
these are being used. The study also attempts to find
better ways to procure and facilitate optimum use. The
sample of this study is a stratified sample. Data is
analysed by exploratory methods showing frequencies
and
central tendencies, range. Data analysed by univariate
