Presently, people who live in South Asian countries experience difficulties in finding
correctly sized garments in the market place. Garment manufacturers produce them
according to specifications prepared to fit the population of the countries for which the
order is placed. No series size study has been carried out for the South Asian
population.
People in general are very conscious about the fit of a garment. To a designer of a
close fitting garment, it is important to achieve the required fit and the comfort of a
particular style. In the industry to achieve better fit, fitting samples on mannequins of
average size is essential and is practical.
An anthropometric study is suggested with a view to obtaining the analogous shape of
South Asian population as a solution to the problem As a first step the preparation of
a Size Chart for them is envisaged and the second step is the development of a
computer simulation model for the body to get better fit and comfort. |
