dc.description.abstract |
In spite of extensive research and technological advancement the study of ground
water has remained more of a speculative and intuitive science as there is no method
to facilitate direct observation of water below the surface. The ground water regime in
a given area largely depends upon lithology, landform, structure and recharge of that
area.
The advent of Remote Sensing and GIS has opened up new vistas in geological,
geomorphological and structural mapping vis-a-vis the ground water exploration.
In this study, Remote Sensing data was used to delineate information on Geology,
Geomorphology, Hydrology and landuse to assist in delineation of ground water
potential zones. During the field work tube well data and dug well data were collected
with a view to studying the behaviour of confined aquifers and unconfined aquifers
respectively. This was followed by creating a tube well database and dug well
database and then generating iso-value maps of tube well parameters and dug well
parameters.
These iso maps have also been used and integrated with the thematic maps to
delineate the ground water potential zones and, to find out the nature and performance
of the confined aquifers in the study area. |
